How I Choose Academic Books for Reading

There are so many textbooks in the market nowadays . The books about International Business for example may have so many publications from different authors and different publishers.
Here are some considerations when I decide to buy the academic books
1. I will look upon the authors and the titles. I will prefer to read the books written by professor, associate professor or emeritus professor .... and not just the author with the title 'Dr' . There are big differences when you read the books written between the 'Professor' and 'Dr' . Professor's writing tends to explore the topic with more strategic view, highly informative and better explanation. But beware of this step. I will usually check the institution in which these professors come from . Try to explore until the faculty level in the website and check for the institution departmental research centres and research groups. Then, you may predict any bias in his/her writing and can try to find out any limitations that could be added or improved in the book
2. I prefer to read the books that aims for researchers , postgraduate or upper-level undergraduate studies. The book like "Introduction to ....." is really not my cup of tea. Instead , I will prefer books entitled "Essentials of ....." or any books that try to combine the interdisciplinary nature of studies.
3. The cost is essential . But if I have found a highly quality book , I am willing to invest !
